Eros/ion (2021)

I wanted the audience to consider the idea of the bathroom as a site for tending to our bodies. While we can easily tend to the outside of our bodies, primping and cleaning, what if it were as easy to tend to the internal aspects of our bodies?

It was situated in the outer washroom area of the rest room. Soaps were cast in the shape of various organs: brain, heart, lungs, uterus, stomach, intestines, kidney, and bladder. These were placed in ceramic soap dishes mounted at various levels around the room. The walls were painted a deep velvety red. The soaps were used for actual washing up after leaving the inner rest room.

This installation was created for the Rest Room Show at the Mills Gallery, at Boston Center for the Arts.
